St Kitts & Nevis Citizenship by Investment Guide
Everything you need to know about obtaining a second passport through the world's longest-running citizenship by investment programme.
Last updated: March 2026
Programme Overview
St Kitts and Nevis operates the world's longest-running citizenship by investment (CBI) programme, established in 1984. It allows individuals and their families to obtain full citizenship and a second passport through a qualifying financial contribution to the country.
The programme is regulated by the Citizenship by Investment Unit (CIU) and has become a common choice for high-net-worth Americans and British investors seeking a “Plan B”: visa-free global travel, tax neutrality and portfolio diversification through second citizenship.

Tax Advantages
St Kitts and Nevis is a tax-neutral jurisdiction. Citizens and residents benefit from:
- No income tax on worldwide income
- No capital gains tax
- No wealth tax or net worth tax
- No inheritance or estate tax
For US citizens, obtaining St Kitts citizenship does not change US tax obligations. Americans are taxed on worldwide income regardless of additional citizenships. That said, a St Kitts passport provides valuable travel flexibility and can be part of a broader wealth structuring strategy. British investors may benefit from holding certain assets through a tax-neutral jurisdiction, subject to UK tax rules on remittance and domicile.
Professional tax advice is essential to understand how a second citizenship interacts with your existing tax obligations.
